The National Guard Association of Puerto Rico (NGAPR) recently participated in the 145th National Guard Association of the United States (NGAUS) General Conference, which took place from August 23-26, 2024, in Detroit, Michigan. This prestigious event is a cornerstone for National Guard leadership across the nation, offering a unique opportunity to collaborate, share insights, and discuss the future direction of our forces.

The Importance of the NGAUS General Conference

The NGAUS General Conference is the premier event for National Guard members, bringing together thousands of officers, warrant officers, and key stakeholders to address the most pressing issues facing the National Guard today. The conference serves as a critical platform for advocacy, enabling members to influence legislation, network with industry leaders, and participate in professional development sessions.

For the NGAPR, the conference is an invaluable opportunity to represent Puerto Rico on the national stage, ensuring that our voice is heard in discussions that shape the policies and initiatives that directly impact our soldiers and their families.

A Historic Collaboration: Puerto Rico and New Mexico

This year’s conference was particularly special for the NGAPR as it marked the first time our delegation hosted a hospitality suite in conjunction with another state, New Mexico. This historic collaboration allowed both states to showcase their unique cultures, forge stronger relationships, and highlight the camaraderie that defines the National Guard community.

The joint hospitality suite was a resounding success, drawing hundreds attendees from across the country and providing a vibrant space for networking and cultural exchange. It also demonstrated the power of unity and partnership within the National Guard, setting a new standard for future conferences.

Looking Ahead: Puerto Rico 2028

As we look to the future, the NGAPR is already hard at work planning to bring the NGAUS General Conference to Puerto Rico in 2028. Hosting the conference on our island is a significant endeavor that promises to boost our local economy, showcase our rich heritage, and reinforce Puerto Rico’s strategic importance within the National Guard community.

We are committed to creating an unforgettable experience for all attendees, highlighting the best of Puerto Rican culture, hospitality, and professionalism. Our goal is to ensure that the 2028 conference is not only successful but also leaves a lasting impression on all who attend.

We extend our gratitude to everyone who contributed to this year’s conference and look forward to continuing our efforts to support and advance the interests of our soldiers and our island. Together, we will ensure that Puerto Rico remains a vital and influential member of the National Guard family.
